A Lyric That Lasts

It's what a songwriter hopes for when he sits down to create. At least it's what I hope for. A Lyric that lasts. A lyric that reads well. A lyric that means something. It doesn't always happen. But once in awhile it does. Call it cocky if you want, but I believe LIGHT AND DARK has a lyric that lasts, a lyric that reads well, and a lyric that means something. Written with my friend Duane Steele. Hope it moves you.

LIGHT AND DARK

Water and wine. Sunday mornings and Saturday nights.

Sinners and saints. Best of intentions and wicked ways.

Light and dark, ain’t that far apart.

Truth and lies. Right and wrong. Black and white.

Lovers and friends. Hitting the jackpot and losing again.

Light and dark, ain’t that far apart.

Light and dark, ain’t that far apart.

I’ve been a victor and a loser. Stone cold sober and a user.

I have rejoiced in love and mourned a broken heart.

On this long road I have seen enough that I’ve come to believe.

That the spaces in between light and dark, ain’t that far apart.

Light and dark, ain’t that far apart.

Lost and found. Begging for change and wearing a crown.

Flesh and blood, yeah we’re all made of the same stuff.
